Slay Socials - The Origin Story

Hey There!

It’s me - Khushi! The typical Gen Z that has literally grown up with social media at her finger tips and here I stand as the founder and director of my own social media agency at the age of 24…

If you had told me that I’d be here when I had started university I would not have believed you - because believe it or not when I first began my higher education journey I always thought I’d be a veterinarian (yes, I absolutely love animals!) not a founder of her own business! (But boy am I proud of how far I’ve come)!

What’s my why?

You’re probably wondering why I randomly landed in the field of social media and began my own agency and put simply the answer is this - I wanted to start an agency that truly cared for its clients. An agency that broke boundaries in everything that they did for the their clients. An agency that did this not for the money, but for the purpose of helping fellow business owners adapt and grow in a space where digital is everything!

My passion for socials, creating bespoke content that stands out and balancing both data and creativity is what helps create the perfect formula in helping my clients achieve their true business goals

My history

Now we all know that any person can start a digital marketing agency these days and claim that they’re professionals - but what’s there to back them up? I’ll tell you what I have…

Yes, my age might be young but my experience is what truly helps you out - I’ve been a content creator since 2015 (yes that means I was creating content while I was in school). I went through all the changes that instagram had from the beginning of reels to carousels to grid changes and more. Later when TikTok sprouted during COVID, you bet I hopped onto that as well. But my passion for content creation and social media isn’t the only thing I hold against my name.

My true passion began when I started my own small candle business during COVID. With an entrepreneurial spirit I created emails, a website and marketed my product both at stalls and through social media platforms including instagram and tiktok. I won’t lie - it wasn’t my best business idea but it did teach me a lot of important lessons on what worked and what didn’t. Especially as TikTok started to come into play and consumers began to dramatically shift to online/digital ways of shopping and working.

I think went on to complete my degree in psychology where I not only studied typical science based subject but consumer psychology and marketing subjects as well. This is where the sparks in my brain truly began to be go off and give me a pathway to something I had never expected - I was amazed by the intersection between psychology and marketing. How we thought the way we did? How people’s external influences made an impact on purchasing habits? How the type and creativity of content made an impact on engagement and a whole lot more…

I decided to freelance - I picked up clients whilst completing my degree and decided why not give it a try. After running their socials (some which are with me to this day) I realised that this was what I wanted to do. This ultimately propelled my career into numerous full time internships and jobs in digital marketing where I had training from some of the best in the field. If you’ve heard of Kic (the health and wellness app) you’ll know how amazing their socials are - they’re pro community builders! And luckily I was able to spearhead their content for a short period of time before I landed a role in a larger company where I handled everything from website to paid ads to EDMs to digital content shoots to social media and a whole lot more!

And this is when my epiphony came…

During my roles I had interacted with agencies and had understood not only how they worked but also what the current gaps were in the market. People had been scammed by agenices. They’d been given false promises. They’d been told they’d get “X” results and then never follow through. The list truly just goes on…

I wanted to change this reputation of an agency - I wanted to create an agency that cared. That followed through on promises. That truly gave it their all simply because they had the expertise and the passion.

And that’s how Slay Socials was born.

I then brought my agency to life whilst working full time and continuing to grow my skills and experience. I’ve had the opportunity to work with a variety of industries and can’t wait to continue to expand my horizons and get to create an agency where business owners don’t feel scared to say “Yes, we’d love to have our socials run by you”

Stay tuned because I’ll be creating a space where you as a business owner feel valued, appreciated and most of all understood!
